Misano the focus for the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team

Almost two months since the Assen round, riders Khairul Idham Pawi and Kaito Toba are fit and ready to return to the tracks, as they look to build on all that they learned at the TT Circuit. The Dutch event proved particularly challenging, with very variable weather and a wet track for the best part of the weekend. Despite this, both riders gained valuable experience, before Toba put in a very strategic performance in Race 2, exploiting an early tyre change in the rain to climb from twenty-ninth on the grid to sixth across the line. This very positive result serves to boost morale on both sides of the garage as the entire team continues to focus on the on-track development of the CBR600RR.

Both riders have continued to work on their physical and mental preparation in recent weeks. The team also took part in a test at the Cremona Circuit in May, a two-day session that allowed the team to collate a wealth of data that will be useful as the season progresses.

Known as the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli since 2011, the facility was inaugurated in the 1970s and has regularly hosted both MotoGP and WorldSBK. The production-derived series has been staged at the circuit since 1991, with the racing often taking place in the summertime. Located on the Adriatic coast in the region of Emilia Romagna, the racetrack currently measures 4.226 km and incorporates ten right-hand corners and six left-handers.

"“We tested a few days ago at Cremona and were able to try something new that should be of benefit in terms of bottom power. I know the Misano circuit, having raced there in 2018, so hopefully that prior experience will help as we try our best to score some good results.”"

Kaito Toba Kaito Toba WorldSSP Rider #27

"“Let’s see what we can do Misano on the back of a recent update. I think we should be able to improve as a result, so I’m looking forward to getting back out and fighting on track in Italy. With any luck we can start strong in FP1 and then we’ll see what we can do in the races, maybe top ten, top five, perhaps even the podium!”"
