PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda riders Toba and Pawi have completed the twelfth and final round of the WorldSSP season by placing fourteenth and nineteenth in Sunday’s race.

More points for Toba in the final WorldSSP race of the season

Just as he did yesterday, Toba lined up in sixteenth on the grid for this final race of the season, with Pawi just behind him in twentieth position. With both riders having reached the points zone in Saturday’s Race 1, the duo was keen to repeat that performance in today’s season finale.

The 17-lap race got off to a smooth start, with Kaito soon making up significant ground. Up into the points zone by lap three, the Japanese rider fought hard to build on thirteenth position within a group of about six riders. Doing his best to maintain a consistent pace that would allow him to remain inside the points zone, Toba completed this final race of the season in fourteenth position, earning two more championship points for his efforts. The rider thus rounds out the season on a positive note, having finished three of the last four races in the points. Pawi, twentieth on the grid, also made a strong start and gained four positions over the first few laps. Battling as part of a large group, the Malaysian came close to the points zone but had difficulty matching the pace of his closest rivals over the second half of the race, ultimately finishing in nineteenth place.

At the end of this final WorldSSP round and having made gradual progress over the course of the 2024 season, Toba places twenty-third overall in the championship standings with 21 points and Pawi thirty-seventh with three points. The PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team is yet to confirm its plans for the 2025 World Supersport season but will do so in the near future.

Kaito Toba

“We used the morning warm-up to try a solution to improve the bike set up with warmer track conditions. In the race we started from fifteenth position and, after losing a bit of time through turn 1, I was able to move up and stay inside the points zone. The front of the bike was on the limit though, and I started to struggle once the tyre performance began to drop; I had to manage the situation and be careful. Still, we finished the race in the points again and were able to confirm the progression we’ve made throughout the 2024 season. I would like to thank Midori-san, the team and Honda for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to grow during the course of the year.”

Khairul Idham Pawi

“At the start of the race I felt good and had the pace to stay with the group, also with Toba. From about mid-race, I started to struggle with the front, almost losing it a couple of times. So at that point I decided I had to just keep the rhythm, avoid mistakes and finish the race. A pity we couldn’t score more points today but not a bad weekend overall. I want to say a big thank you to the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team for all their support and hard work this season.”
