The PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team travels straight from the Cremona Circuit to Motorland Aragón in Spain, where round ten of the 2024 Supersport World Championship follows straight on the back of the Italian round.

Toba, Pawi and wildcard Hakeem turn their attentions to Aragón

Riders Kaito Toba and Khairul Idham Pawi will be joined by wildcard entry Azroy Hakeem this weekend, the 24-year-old Malaysian set to make his WorldSSP debut with the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team.

The recently resurfaced Aragón circuit presents all three riders with another new challenge, although both Toba and Pawi have ridden at the track in the past, when competing in Moto2 and Moto3. For the two permanent riders, the goal will be to continue along their respective growth paths, while wildcard Hakeem, who has extensive experience with Honda machinery, will be tasked with getting to grips with a new class and a new circuit.

WorldSBK first visited Motorland Aragón in 2011, with the facility having opened just two years prior. The circuit is located in Alcañiz, part of Spain’s autonomous community of Aragón, roughly 250 km from Barcelona. In its current configuration, the track measures 5.077 kilometres and comprises seven right-hand turns and ten left-handers.

Kaito Toba

“Aragón is a track I’m familiar with; I raced there in the past and also got a podium in the Moto3 World Championship. We had a test there a few weeks ago, and the track conditions were a bit tricky as it lacked grip. But seems it has improved since then, having staged MotoGP and other activities, so I’m looking forward to getting out there this coming weekend and working with the team.”

Khairul Idham Pawi

“We have some data at our disposal heading into the Aragón round, which is good, and I know the track quite well. Cremona was a tough round for us, but hopefully we can do more this coming weekend, especially if we can work well already in Friday’s practice and Superpole.”

Azroy Hakeem

“I want to say thanks to the Boon Siew Honda Team, the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team and everyone who has made it possible for this wildcard to happen. This is a big opportunity for me and of course I will do my best to showcase my abilities during the upcoming WorldSSP round at Motorland Aragón.”
